10: "Deluge, Hope & Patience"
In the wake of the 2010 Nashville flood which left parts of our city devastated, Tokens provides some space for contemplation, lament and hope in light of our current context, as well as the metaphorical significance of "flood." Our musical lineup included Over the Rhine, Jill Phillips, Andy Gullahorn, and Buddy Greene, accompanied by our Most Outstanding Horeb Mountain Boys, led by Jeff Taylor and featuring Aubrey Haynie and Byron House with guests Cody Kilby and Bob Mater sitting in. Inviting us into historical and cultural significance of tragedy and devastation were Jerry Mitchell, an investigative reporter who helped reopen and convict in a Civil Rights murder case, and Rodney Clapp on his new book Johnny Cash and the Great American Contradiction; we also welcomed the Tokens Radio Players and our dear friend Brother Preacher to help us laugh within our current situation.
"Deluge, Hope & Patience" was recorded before a live audience on June 4, 2010, in Allen Arena's McQuiddy Gymnasium at Lipscomb University, site of the first Red Cross shelter during the 2010 Nashville Flood.

08: "Things New & Old"
The distinguised historian Arnold Toynbee noted that for some, "history is just one damn thing after another," which is to say that there is no redemptive end, point, or goal of history. In "Things New and Old," we acknowledged the oft-times cursed nature of human existence, but looked for tokens of the new, signs of redemption and hope in the midst of the old. Joining us were musical guests Mary Gauthier, Marcus Hummon, Buddy Greene, Tyler Flowers and the David Lipscomb High School Chorus, accompanied by our Most Outstanding Horeb Mountain Boys, led by Jeff Taylor and featuring Chris Brown, Aubrey Haynie, Byron House, and Pete Huttlinger. Sitting in the interview chair for the night was Professor Amy-Jill Levine discussing her recent book The Misunderstood Jew, and we laughed with special guest David Pendleton and our Tokens Radio Players.

07: "Hear the Plight"
In the spirituals and hymns that sing of the great day coming where are the struggles of life shall be eased and made no more, many critics hear excuses: the excuses of a people who have resigned themselves the wrongs of the world until that "sweet by-and-by" instead of speaking up for the rights of their fellow man today. But when put in their proper context, these songs were born out of poverty, oppression, and injustice. In them, we can hear the cries of outrage at the wrongs of the world and a yearing for social change -- that is,of course, if we indeed have ears to ear. Joining us as we seek to rediscover the roots of this music were guests Odessa Settles and the Settles Connection, Ashley Cleveland, Nashville's the Ukedelics, and Hope Miller, along with author and professor Scot McKnight. We were also joined once again by our good friend Brother Preacher and the Tokens Radio Players, with our Most Outstanding Horeb Mountain Boys, led by Jeff Taylor and featuring Chris Brown, Aubrey Haynie, Byron House, and Pete Huttlinger, with special guest Bryan Cumming.

06: "Stories We Live By"
Aristotle taught us that the goodness or badness of a thing, or a person, or a community, is inextricably linked to the end or purpose or function or goal of the thing or person or community. Modernism, on the other hand, has wanted us to think about what is "right" or "wrong" without thinking about end or goal or purpose or function. And as Alasdair MacIntyre reminds us, such things are related to the narrative or story or stories of which we are a part. So we reflected upon various stories and communal identities, exploring some of the stories, songs, and poems we tell about ourselves. Joining us on the journey were musical guests Buddy Greene, Ron Block, Sandra McCracken and singing group Psalom, along with authors Barbara Brown Taylor on her book An Altar in the World and Hubert Locke on Learning from History: A Black Christian's Perspective on the Holocaust. We were also joined once again by our good friend Brother Preacher and the Tokens Radio Players, with our never-ceasing-to-amaze Most Oustanding Horeb Mountain Boys, led by Jeff Taylor and featuring Chris Brown, Aubrey Haynie, Byron House, and Pete Huttlinger.

We explored what it means when the Scriptures say, "Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream," and why Bob Dylan had to ask, "How many ears must one man have before he can hear people cry?" We had some good company to help us explore. Our musical line-up was top-notch, featuring Vince Gill, Buddy Greene, Sonya Isaacs, and Odessa Settles, along with our always Most Oustanding Horeb Mountain Boys, and a special performance by our host Lee C. Camp. And as always, Our Tokens Radio Players helped bring an eye for an eye into perspective. And to help us with real stories about justice, we interviewed Brad MacLean on his work with death row inmates, and Will Campbell on his book Brother to a Dragonfly.

04: "The Christmas Revolution"
To celebrate the Advent season, we explored the spectacular event of God coming as a human, showing great power in a way unlike the governments and powers of this world. To help us celebrate the significance of Jesus' birth, we enlisted the help of returning musical guests Buddy Greene, Andrew Peterson, and the Annie Moses Band, along with first-time guest Tricia Walker and a special performance by the Harpeth Valley Sacred Harp Singers. Our Most Oustanding Horeb Mountain Boys rounded out our musical lineup, directed by Jeff Taylor, featuring Aubrey Haynie, Byron House, Pete Huttlinger, Chris Brown, and special guest Javier Santiago on percussion. Our Tokens Radio Players made us laugh at our modern use of the Christmas season. To help us in our endeavor, we were joined by Derek Webb, along with Buddy Greene and Odessa Settles, who returned for their third and second episode with us, respectively. Our Most Oustanding Horeb Mountain Boys rounded out our musical lineup, directed by Jeff Taylor, featuring Aubrey Haynie, Byron House, Pete Huttlinger, Chris Brown, featuring Brian Cummings on horns and procussion.
