Dear friends,

What a joy it is to announce the release of the first installment of our new Tokens compilation series entitled: The Most Outstanding Homilies (So Far) of Brother Preacher.

That’s right, we’ve hand-picked clips of the most hilarious Brother Preacher sermons and set them loose on the world – whether they like it or not. Let’s face it, you just don’t hear preaching like this anymore…if you ever did.

Now you too can confuse, offend and eventually be disfellowshiped by your friends and family, just like Brother Preacher is every time he preaches!

But that’s not all. In addition to BP’s sermon clips, we’ve included two new never-before -released Brother Preacher songs (with Jeff Taylor), as well some “behind-the-scenes” interviews I did with Brother Preacher in my Living Room, that may be the best yet.

So pre-order your copy of The Most Outstanding Homilies (So Far) of Brother Preacher, right now, this very moment, by clicking here, or clicking on Brother Preacher’s face, above.

And as Brother Preacher would say:

In closing…blah blah blah…whatever. As together we stand and sing.

Peace, LCC

PS — click play below to hear Brother Preacher advertise Brother Preacher

From our friends at the C3 conference, which Tokens was very pleased to be a part of last year. It’s a most outstanding event.

You’re invited: March 1-3, for the second annual C3 Conference! The theme is “Engage the World.” Held at St. George’s Church in Nashville, speakers include Culture-Making author Andy Crouch, retired Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey, artist and author Makoto Fujimura, youth culture expert Kenda Creasy Dean, and author and teacher James K. A. Smith, as well as workshop leaders Ian Morgan Cron, Steve Guthrie, and Enuma Okoro.

Full Conference registration includes all conference events, Thursday evening through Saturday afternoon. The Thursday night opening Arts Festival features delicious tapas, an art gallery, a concert, and the Opening Plenary. Friday and Saturday are filled with four additional plenary speakers, a featured speaker panel, and over fifteen workshops. Topics will include raising creative children; social media and faith; marriage; technology and culture; life and service in retirement; and workshops on faith and the arts. In addition, a special workshop track will be offered for youth ministers and parents of youth. Note more information, including online registration for C3, at www.stgeorgesinstitute.org/C3.

Delighted we were to have Dr. Francis Collins, director of the Human Genome Project, current director of the NIH, and author of several books to join us at our Malibu show on the Pepperdine campus. “Wisdom of the Skeptic” was recorded in conjunction with the Christian Scholars Conference in June.

Here Collins discusses faith and evolution, and the way in which he believes those seeking to defend Christian faith actually do more harm than good; plus a story about a foray on a medical mission trip to Africa, in which he found our western conceit and its great trust in mere human ingenuity humbled.
We were very pleased to have had the opportunity to interview Mr. Hal Holbrook at our show in Malibu in June. We were especially pleased to have him, given that his health had been poor, and we did not know until 6:30 p.m. (with show starting at 7:30) that he would in fact be with us.

Here he discusses Mark Twain as skeptic, the social function of the skeptic, and then cites for us one of Twain’s most classic short pieces, “The War Prayer.” Click the play button below to listen, or click here to download.

I am no Civil War historian, but am giving myself something of a crash course in preparation for our September 22 show “Singing Down the Pain.” Currently reading Don’t Know Much about the Civil War by Kenneth Davis, as well as beginning the very enjoyable task of watching through Ken Burns eleven hour documentary. Also much enjoyed lunch last week with Robert Hicks, author of Widow of the South. Robert’s advice on writing the show? “Make sure you tell the whole story.” Ah! In ninety minutes. A delightful challenge indeed. Have also gotten some great stories from Bob Oermann, Nashville writer and historian, as well as our friend Marilyn Switzer, plus lots of great song suggestions from our friend Mike Duncan. Have suggestions on songs, favorite quotes, or anecdotes that you think might work great in the Tokens episode?
